I hear a crashing sound and look up to see an elderly woman careening through these posts. She drives off as we are trying to tell her to stop. One bystander jumps in his pickup to follow and get her license plate number. We pickup the posts and I take t his picture. A bit later the police show up and say she is being charged, since everything back in place I show him the photo. He has me text it too him. About 10 minutes later he dude who chased her down drive back through and tell me that she turned in front oncoming traffic and completely destroyed the car. Crazy world.

Yeah they look like they are sturdy and we’re put there to protect pedestrians, but apparently not

Not fastened at all, which was shocking. Moments earlier some kids had been playing in the very spot. Very cheap of them not to make them permanently attached. Dangerous actually.

Those bollards appear to have failed as bollards. They’re typically as deep below grade as they are tall, and filled with concrete. Those look like they were completely decorative...

They are. Seems like a lawsuit waiting to happen. Some body drive through them and the city gets sued because the parents thought it was a safe spot for johnny to play.

Yeah typically engineers and architects try to make vehicle barriers look like something other than vehicle barriers...  in this case they went the total opposite, why bother with the bollards if they’re not protecting anything?  Wow.

Yeah, this is terrifying. Bollards exist to protect delicate things (like squishy humans and buildings) from heavy moving things like cars. These look like they  flew everywhere without even the resistance a bowling pin provides.

They are pretty traffic cones to keep people from using the sidewalk as a lane.
